UPS Installation Environments and Power Protection
These UPS Installation Environment and Power Protection guidelines are provided for SORO Uninterruptible Power Supplies and power protection systems. They cover both floor standing and 19" rack
The UPS Environment
Temperature
SORO UPS systems are designed to operate at a constant ambient temperature of up to 40ºC without the need to de-rate them. For optimum battery life it is recommended that the ambient around the UPS should be 20ºC. If the ambient temperature exceeds this recommendation the batteries will not perform to their design life expectations.
For example if a 5 year design life battery if subjected to a constant operating temperature of 30ºC then the batteries design life will typically reduce by 50%. This reaction to temperature is not linear (e.g. at 40ºC the battery design life will be reduced to 20%). Therefore it is recommended that the UPS system is installed in an environment where the ambient temperature is controlled and monitored to 20ºC.
Humidity
The maximum humidity the UPS is subjected to must not exceed 90% (non condensing).
Altitude
If the UPS is installed at an altitude greater than
Ventilation
a) Ensure that all of the UPS ventilation grills are left clear and free from obstructions.
b) Ensure that any recommended minimum distance required to be left between the UPS and the nearest obstruction is not breeched.
c) If the UPS is to be located within a small environment (e.g. a rack or cupboard), ensure that sufficient ventilation is provided as the UPS system will generate heat.
d) The batteries within the UPS will dissipate a very small amount of gas; therefore do not operate the UPS in a sealed container.
c) For very large battery systems, ensure that adequate ventilation is provided for battery gassing.
Access
a) Always ensure that the UPS is easily accessible (front and rear).
B) Do not leave items that may pose a tripping hazard on the access route to the UPS.
C) Always provide adequate space around the cable connections points of the UPS.
D) Always provide adequate space around any switches or buttons that may need to be accessed in the event of an emergency.
Visual indications
Always ensure that the visual display panel of the UPS is easily accessible.
Positioning
a) Do not position the UPS in direct sunlight.
b) Do not position the UPS in a location that may be subjected to hot air or any source of heat.
c) Do not position the UPS in a location that might be subjected to high amounts of vibration (>
d) Do not position the UPS where it may be subjected to fluid ingress (e.g. beneath dripping pipes etc).
e) Ensure that the location of the UPS is clean, where the unit will not be exposed to dust or foreign bodies.
f) Ensure that no items are left on top of the UPS that may cause a problem (e.g. tools, drinks, etc).
